Penn R. Post '56
Penn R. Post ’56 passed away on July 4 at age 85. The son of Charles and Kathleen Post, he grew up in Hermosa Beach, where, at age 10, he became one of the “early adopters” of surfing on wooden long boards.
Post graduated from Harvard School (now Harvard-Westlake), in Los Angeles, earned his bachelor’s degree in engineering at UCLA, and a master’s in business administration at USC. At UCLA he was on the swim, water polo, and volleyball teams and a member of Phi Gamma Delta fraternity. He was also a member of the Los Angeles County Lifeguards, serving in the Manhattan and Hermosa Beach areas.
Post worked at General Electric in New York, where he held several positions in management, marketing and sales in their large computer division. After working in several other cities in the eastern U.S. and Michigan, he returned to California in the ‘60s, where he held management positions at Cal Comp and Rockwell International.
In 1980, he founded Post Associates, a financial education and management development firm in San Diego. He developed custom seminars to educate executives and managers in ways to improve shareholder value and increase the profitability of his clients, which were primarily Fortune 500 aerospace and technology companies. The seminars were given throughout the U.S., Europe and Asia.
Post’s Christian faith was a big part of his life. He served in the Men’s Ministry and was an active volunteer at La Jolla Presbyterian Church. He was a member of St. Andrews Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and elder and a mentor for “Teen Challenge.”
Post is survived by his wife Vanda; daughters Kathleen Post, Elizabeth Post, Lisa Ellerton, Andrea Riedel (David), and Erin Deegan (Chad); son David; brother Charles (Anna Hamilton Phelan); and six grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held Aug. 3, 2018, at 1:00 pm in the Sanctuary at St. Andrews Presbyterian Church, 600 St. Andrews Road, Newport Beach, CA 92663, with a reception following. Memorial gifts may be made to “St. Andrews Presbyterian Church Deacon’s Fund” or “Orange County Teen Challenge”.
