Allison Daly

Allison completed her undergraduate study at UC Berkeley in 2017, majoring in molecular and cell biology with an emphasis in immunology and minoring in chemistry. While at Berkeley, she started doing research in Dr. Xiaohua Gong’s lab, studying the genetic underpinning of cataracts disease. She decided to pursue her interest in the immune system and was selected to work in Dr. Kauro Saijo’s immunity and pathogenesis lab. She completed her honors thesis in Dr. Saijo’s lab investigating the role of innate immune cells in the onset of Type 2 Diabetes. After graduating with honors from Berkeley, Allison started her PhD in molecular biology at UCLA. She is currently a second-year graduate student in Dr. Stephen Smale’s lab. Her research interests are focused on investigating transcriptional regulation of immune cell activation. She strives to expand scientific understanding at the intersection of immunology and gene regulation by revealing key mechanisms essential for inflammation, proliferation, and differentiation of immune cells. With a deep mechanistic understanding of transcriptional regulation, she hopes to help shift the field of medicine to precise and personalized therapeutics.
