Brad Silberling ’87

Director Brad Silberling M.F.A. ’87 is currently preparing the film An Ordinary Man, a suspense-drama that he will direct and produce from his original screenplay. He next directs and co-authors the screen adaptation of Billy Bryson’s bestseller A Walk in the Woods, to star Robert Redford and Nick Nolte.
Some of Silberling’s prior film credits include Land of the Lost starring Will Ferrell and Danny McBride; the critically acclaimed independent feature 10 Items or Less, starring Morgan Freeman and Paz Vega, which he wrote, directed and produced; the Academy Award-winning Lemony Snicket’s A Series of Unfortunate Events, starring Jim Carrey and Meryl Streep; the critically acclaimed Moonlight Mile, which he wrote, directed and produced, starring Dustin Hoffman, Susan Sarandon, Jake Gyllenhaal and Holly Hunter; and the much-lauded box office hit City of Angels, starring Meg Ryan and Nicolas Cage, which he directed as his second feature.
His first film, for producer Steven Spielberg, was the 1995 family classic Casper, which followed three years of extensive television directing credits, primarily for producer Steven Bochco, including NYPD Blue and L.A. Law, among others.
Silberling is a graduate of the UCLA School of Theater Film and Television where he earned his master’s degree in production. He completed his undergraduate studies at UC Santa Barbara where he earned a bachelor degree in English.
Silberling is married to award-winning actress Amy Brenneman, is the father of two children and resides in Los Angeles.
