Tyson C. Brummett '15
Tyson C. Brummett '15, a former UCLA and major league baseball player, passed away July 3 in a plane crash.
Brummett was piloting the plane, which left from the South Valley Regional Airport in West Jordan and crashed near Box Elder Peak in American Fork Canyon, according to a news release from the Utah County Sheriff's Office. He and his three passengers died on impact, according to the news release.
A right-handed pitcher who earned All-Pac 10 honors in his final collegiate season, Brummett was picked in the seventh round by the Phillies in the 2007 MLB draft and spent five years in the team's minor league system, making one appearance in the majors, on the final day of the 2012 season. He faced four batters, giving up singles to the first two he faced and striking out the last two. He was subsequently in the organizations of the Toronto Blue Jays and Los Angeles Dodgers, but did not make it back to the major leagues. Following his baseball career, he completed his bachelor's degree, majoring in history, and became a certified flight instructor.
