Mary Louise Charles ’60

My Alumni Scholarship helped pay for two years at UCLA. I was a junior college transfer and the scholarship helped finance my junior and senior years. It also enabled me to get my degree and elementary education credential, leading to a long career in education, a rewarding and exciting profession.
What I remember most were the excellent professors, especially in education school. It was there that I overcame my dislike of math and found it to be my favorite subject to teach. Also, I was involved in many activities. Some of these were Executive Committee for Mardi Gras, Shell and Oar and AOπ sorority.
My knowledge of philanthropy gave me a sense of gratitude. My husband and I have contributed to UCLA through the Chancellor's Associates, Bruin Bench, Bruin Athletic Fund, School of Engineering and other specific requests. We also are involved in the Rose Bowl Bruins and support the chapter’s scholarship events.
