"Back to JWAC" COVID-19 Staff Protocol

In tandem with the new mask mandate, starting Monday, July 26, UCLA will be resuming mandatory weekly COVID-19 testing for all UCLA students, faculty and staff members who are coming to campus and other UCLA properties, regardless of vaccination status, which includes those who were previously approved to opt out of testing. We strongly encourage resumption of testing before the 26th to become familiar with the new testing method.

As previously communicated, anyone with an active BruinCard may retrieve up to two self-administered saliva-based COVID-19 tests per week from one of more than a dozen COVID-19 test vending machines and distribution centers located throughout the campus.

Those requiring in-person testing or who are unable to get a test kit from a vending machine, as well as those who need help with testing for any other reason, may go to 300 Bradley Hall for assistance.

In addition, daily symptom monitoring is still required by Cal/OSHA for faculty, staff and student workers who are coming to campus and other UCLA properties, regardless of vaccination status.

Staff, faculty and other non-student employees need to use the UCLA COVID-19 Symptom Monitoring System to confirm vaccination status in one of several ways listed below:

• Option 1: Consent to check UCLA Health records and the state vaccination database for California residents
• Option 2: Upload a CDC vaccination card image or non-U.S. equivalent
• Option 3: Upload their official medical record from a health care provider.
• Option 4: Alternatively, employees may indicate their request for a medical, disability or religious exemption through this system. Employees and supervisors can also check their clearance status and that of their direct reports using the UCLA COVID-19 Clearance Portal (UCLA logon ID required), which also includes face mask requirements for each employee.

Vaccinations

Vaccine policy and associated requirements do not extend to campus visitors and third-party contract workers. Per Los Angeles County Department of Public Health recommendations, visitors coming to UCLA who are unvaccinated must wear a mask while in campus buildings.

With new variants becoming even more contagious, policy enforcement measures for the vaccination requirement will be in place this fall to support campus safety. Those with approved exemptions or accommodations will be required to wear a mask while in campus buildings and participate in routine COVID-19 testing. All staff are required to wear face coverings indoors as of July 18, 2021.

All guests must also continue to wear masks indoors.

Common exceptions where staff is not required to wear masks are listed below:

• When alone in a room or vehicle
• No face covering requirements outdoors, regardless of vaccination status.
• When eating and drinking
• When an accommodation is required (religious)
• When an accommodation is required (medical)
• When job duties make a face covering infeasible or create a hazard, please use an N95 Respirator if possible as an alternative to a mask.
  
• JWAC ACM Staff will provide any guest or employees with approved respirators (N95 Masks) if necessary; these respirators are for use when working indoors or in a vehicle with others. Available upon request.
• All staff has the right to wear a mask as they feel is needed, no staff is required to remove their mask, regardless of vaccination status.

No physical distancing or barriers are required in JWAC regardless of vaccination status with the following exceptions:

Everyone must be wearing a mask.

Physical distancing and barriers will only be required if there is an outbreak (3 or more cases in an exposed group of employees)

JWAC is currently operating at its highest efficiency in regard to its' ventilation systems, the current system and its filters maximize outdoor air and increase filtrations efficiency. For question or concerns about the ventilation system in JWAC, please contact your building manager.

Restrooms are fully open can be used as needed with no physical distancing needed, however, masks protocol applies as it does for regular indoor spaces - all staff is required to wear masks while in a restroom with others unless they are in their own stall/space.

All staff, regardless of vaccination status, can be in the same room with no physical distancing required, however, masks need to be worn by all staff while in a room with others.

Kitchen appliances may be shared, however, regular sanitization or wiping down of shared surfaces is recommended after each use.

• • ACM Management will be regularly wiping down surfaces, but staff may use PPE (personal protective equipment) available to them by ACM Management as needed

• If I break or lose my mask, where can I go for another one?
  • Answer: Disposable masks will be available at either of the front desks on the first floor of the building, located at the North and South entrances of JWAC.
• Where can I find hand sanitizer and/or sanitizing wipes? Can I request my own?
  • Answer: You can find hand sanitizer at either of the front desks or their respective entrances, in any of the conference rooms at JWAC, the restrooms, kitchens, and in the Galleria/Lobby space.

• Where do I go for PPE I need that is not readily accessible to me from building management?
  • Answer: If for whatever reason, we are unable to provide the necessary PPE you require, please notify your building manager. You can also use the form here if you'd prefer to request a face covering from the university prior to returning to campus.

• May I use the microwave?
  • Answer: You may use the microwave as needed, but please remember to be mindful  of the shared appliances in the building by making sure to use the available paper towels to wipe away any food debris that get left behind.

• Am I able to store my meals in the refrigerator?
  • Answer: Yes, you may store food in the refrigerator, however please remember all food must be properly sealed before being put into the refrigerator. Refrigerators will also be cleaned out weekly.

• Is there water available on site?
  • Answer: No, shared water will not be available until further notice. All staff is encouraged to bring their own personal re-usable water bottles.

• Is there coffee/tea available on site?
  • Answer: No, the office Keurig will not be available until further notice.

• Are there single use plates/flatware available to use?
  • Answer: Yes, single use plates/flatware and utensils will be available for staff to use.

• May I bring food to share with staff?
  • Answer: You may bring food to share with staff so long as it is in the original packaging, sharing of non-packaged/homemade food is prohibited until further notice.

• Where can I eat in the building?
  • Answer: You may eat anywhere in the building staff is normally allowed to do so, there are no longer restrictions correlated to designated eating areas.

• Can I eat around others who are not yet vaccinated?
  • Answer: Yes, so long as the other individual you are near, is ok with you doing so. Also, be sure to keep 6ft of social distancing from one another while eating.

• Can I be "maskless" in the building?
  • Answer: No, currently all staff is required to wear masks while indoors.

• Can I remove my mask in my own cubicle?
  • Answer: Yes, as mentioned above, regardless of vaccination status you are allowed to remove your mask in your own enclosed space or when you are alone in a room.

• Can I remove my masks around others who say they are okay with not wearing masks too? (Regardless of their vaccination status)
  • Answer: No; in accordance to CAL OSHA guidelines, regardless of whether or not you get permission from other staff to remove your mask - you must keep your mask on around other staff.

• Can I continue to wear a mask even if I am not required to?
  • Answer: Yes, you can keep your mask on as you feel necessary. No one can force you to remove your mask if you are not comfortable doing so.

• May I bring a personal air purifier?
  • Answer: Yes, if you have an air purifier you'd like to place in your cubical you may do so; however, you may not being an air purifier and place it in another room. All air purifiers must remain unscented.

• May I bring my coffee maker to work?
  • Answer: Yes, if you have a basic coffee maker you'd like to bring to use in your cubical you may do so; however, you may not bring a coffee maker and place it in another room or share it with other staff. Please check in with your building manager before bringing your appliance in, this is to be sure the appliance is safe to use in your cubical.

• Is there a capacity limit for the restrooms?
  • Answer: No, at this time, there are no longer capacity limits for the restrooms correlated with COVID restrictions, but please remember to have a mask on when entering and exiting the restroom.
