Albert Hutter

Albert Hutter, associate professor of English and comparative literature, is admired and revered by students and peers alike. His sensitivity, openness and flexibility represent only part of Hutter’s concerned, professional style. He has mastered the art of teaching. Hutter is honored this year, in recognition of these talents, as the recipient of the Harvy L. Eby Award for the “Art of Teaching.”

Hutter teaches undergraduate Shakespeare and Dickens. The topics on which he has written range from Shakespeare and Dickens to dream theory and critical theory to fiction. His impressive list of publications includes “Dismemberment and Articulation in Our Mutual Friend,” Dickens studies annual 12 and a thriller called “The Death Mechanic.”

Hutter received his bachelor’s degree from Antioch College in Ohio, his master’s degree from Cambridge University in England, a Ph.D. in psychoanalysis from Southern California Psychoanalytic Institute and another Ph.D. from University of California, Berkeley in English literature. He also teaches in an unpaid/honorary capacity at the SCPI and won an award to teach at the 1978 NEH Seminar for College Teachers.
