Andrew Winer ’82
As a participant in the Education Abroad Program, Andrew Winer attended St. Andrew’s University, where he was ranked as number one in all classes, was named Scottish University National Champion in forensics and played varsity basketball. Winer represented UCLA in the First Annual World Debate Tournament in Glasgow, Scotland, where 16 countries participated, and placed sixth out of 256. Winer is described as an “intellectual adventurer” whose initiative has earned him honors in debate, academics and athletics. A double major in political science and history, with a 3.8 grade point average, Winer has received an Alumni Scholarship, a Regents’ Scholarship and was UCLA’s sole nominee for the Rhodes Scholarship.
Winer has served his community and university while attending UCLA full time, writing his honors thesis, clerking at a law firm and competing in forensics. He has been an integral force in the UCLA Debate Union and voluntarily taught debate at a local high school. He also participated as a key news and sports announcer on KLA. After graduation, Winer will attend law school at UC Berkeley.
