Angela D. Conley ’89
Throughout her tenure at UCLA, Angela Conley didn’t just study sociology – she lived it. While her many honors and awards are irrefutable evidence of her academic achievement, it is her service to the community and the University that are the truest reflection of her character. As co-director of the Student Educational Exposure Program (SEEP), Conley has been effective at motivating inner-city high school students to pursue a college education. Among her many volunteer activities, she has worked in Martin Luther King Hospital’s visitation program and has addressed Girl Scout and elementary school audiences as part of the Just Say No to Drugs campaign. As a member of Delta Sigma Theta, she has served her sorority in many capacities and has been vice chair and treasurer of the Black Greek Letter Organization Council.
Conley has also managed to combine her service with scholarship. She was a member of the development committee of the women’s conference “Women on the Rise – Building for the Future” and took part in the sociology “Immersion Quarter,” studying the police department through first-hand observation. With her impressive academic record, her enthusiastic approach to campus and community activities and her dedication to helping others, Angie embodies the best that UCLA has to offer.
