Ann Reiss Lane ’51
Ann Reiss Lane is exemplary of the ’concerned citizen.’ Her efforts on behalf of the community at large reflect a genuinely caring spirit. Lane has a history of moving mountains to further community causes. She served as the first woman president of the Los Angeles Fire Commission of which she is currently an active board member and holds positions of leadership in organizations concerned with child care and education.
Lane makes friends. She tirelessly works behind the scenes to help people. It is difficult to understand where she finds the time and energy to play such pivotal roles in so many diverse activities. Lane is a member of the Los Angeles Olympics Medical Services Commission; on the advisory board of the Los Angeles Commission on Assaults Against Women; the Regional Planning Council in the United Way; and the list goes on. Lane is also well known and respected for her successful work for the state’s libraries; she served as president of the Los Angeles Board of Library Commissioners as well as on the California State Library Advisory Council.
