Anne Mellor
Garnering applause at her lectures, English professor Anne Mellor challenges students with the most recent thought provoking theories attempting to carry on a “conversation” with them, even in a class of 60 to 70 students. Co-editing the teaching anthology British Literature 1780-1830, which as been adapted for courses in England, Scotland, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand, Mellor works across disciplines that includes women’s writings and non-canonical male texts as part of her cutting edge curriculum. Her graduate students have gone on to create prize-winning papers honored for their originality. Mellor has acted as consultant for four television programs; Mary Shelly’s Frankenstein, the Discovery Channel, ABC’s Primtime, and the South Bank Show. She is also a recipient of the Distinguished Scholar Award, the Clark Professor Award, Rockefeller Foundation Fellowship, and is a two-time winner of the John Simon Guggenheim Fellowship. She also served as director of the feminist Studies Program at UCLA.
