Caryl Carothers ’59

Caryl Carothers appreciates UCLA’s tradition of intellectual challenge and quality in education. With 17 years of University volunteer experience, she acts as a conscientious intermediary for several campus factions and academic departments. Her inspiring efforts are held in the highest regard by faculty, students and alumni.

Carothers is strongly committed to the support of UCLA’s outstanding teaching. She has served on the Academic Senate Committee on Teaching and is the current chair of the advisory board to the College of Letters ad Science Division of Honors.

A graduate of UCLA with a degree in English, Carothers was the 1959 recipient of the Alumni Association’s Outstanding Senior Award. As a member of the Alumni Association Board of Directors, she served with distinction as vice president for continuing education. She is a past president of Las Doñas, a founding member of The Royce 270 and a member of Gold Shield.

Her husband, A.J. Carothers, is a 1954 graduate of the theater arts department. Their three sons are also members of the Blue and Gold family: Christopher ’84 and Andrew, presently a junior at UCLA; and Cameron, University of California, Berkeley ’84.
