Charles Knobler
Charles Knobler is a chemist whose enthusiasm for his field benefits all students who come into his classroom. A professor of chemistry, Knobler came to UCLA as an assistant professor in 1964, was promoted in 1970 to associate professor and received full professorship in 1976. He served as vice chair of the department from 1975 until 1978.
Knobler has an extensive list of more than 50 research publications. His mastery of the subject matter transcends beyond the classroom. He is a coauthor of two major textbooks: “Chemistry: Man and Matter” and “Chem One,̵ which is the standard text for UCLA’s chemistry 11A, B, and C course series.
Prior to his UCLA career, Knobler was a research assistant and research fellow in cryogenic laboratories. He received his bachelor’s degree in chemistry from New York University and his Ph.D. in physics from the University of Leiden in The Netherlands. Knobler is a Fulbright Scholar, recipient of the Herbert Newby McCoy Award and a fellow of the Chemical Physics Division of the American Physical Society.
