Christine Tedmon has followed her passions ever since her dad put her in gymnastics classes at the age of six. Tedmon has loved being a gymnast. Her love of the sport brought her to UCLA, where she was on scholarship and competed for four years. Tedmon began conducting sports psychology research in her fifth year, and has been a teaching assistant in the same subject area. She is a psychology major with a minor in education, and she loves children. Tedmon is incredibly involved with the psychology department, a stellar competitor and she is also very active in Invisible Children, a nonprofit organization that brings attention to the plight of child soldiers in Uganda. Tedmon is passionate about advocating for children who cannot speak for themselves; she organizes screenings of the Invisible Children documentary and brings the issues to the athletic department. Being in this organization allows Tedmon to remain on a team where students are accomplishing a joint goal. Tedmon was able to combine her love for sports, education and children into a dream job for herself, and is going to take a few years off from school to coach gymnastics. She will be heading a development program in Carlsbad where she will work with children in elementary school. After she returns to school, Tedmon hopes to go into education, though not in a formal classroom. She is interested in the role of extracurricular activities in child development and hopes to explore that further.
