Edwin L. Carter ’48
Edwin Carter’s strong belief in the value of education, both formal and informal, defines his outstanding service to the community. He has served as chairman of the board of regents of Chaminade University in Honolulu, chairman of the board of directors of the Bishop Museum and the Academy of the Pacific and as a director of the Mid-Pacific Institute and a member of the advisory board for the School of Ocean, Earth Science, and Technology-University in Hawaii.
Since 1971, Carter has actively supported Scouting, holding such volunteer positions as Aloha Council president, council commissioner and executive board member. He is the proud recipient of the Silver Antelope Award, the Boy Scout’s highest regional award; the Silver Beaver Award, its highest local award; and the Distinguished Eagle Scout Award, bestowed on the Eagle Scouts with at least 25 years of service who have distinguished themselves in their careers and in community and public service.
Carter’s efforts to unite the political, business and military communities of Hawaii were recognized by the secretary of the Navy, who presented him with the Navy’s Meritorious and Superior Public Service Award. He also received the Navy League’s award for “Exemplary Service.”
Carter chairs the boards of directors for the USS Missouri Memorial Association and served as a director of the Pacific Fleet Submarine Memorial Association. He also received the Navy League’s award for “Exemplary Service.”
