Jeffrey A. Seymour ’73, M.P.A. ’77

Jeff Seymour’s commitment to UCLA took root in his early years, first as an undergraduate and then as a graduate student studying public administration. A former board member and past president of the UCLA Alumni Association, Seymour continues to inspire others with the breadth of his commitment and service.
During his Association presidency, he highlighted the significance of engaging current students in university affairs and preparing them for their responsibilities as alumni. This focus shaped efforts to bring students closer to the Alumni Association, such as a student membership program that promotes the values of university support and a strong alumni community. Seymour’s commitment to a dedicated young alumni base laid an important foundation for future events such as the Young Alumni Reunion.
After completing his term as president, Seymour represented UCLA as an alumni regent on the University of California Board of Regents. In that post, he served as president of the Alumni Associations of the University of California, chair of the Regents Subcommittee for Third-Party Development of Student, Faculty and Staff Housing and as vice chair of the Regent’s Committee on Grounds and Buildings.
Seymour has also served as chair of the UCLA Annual Fund, president of UCLA Jewish Alumni, co-chair of the Westside Chancellor’s Associates and as a member of the Board of Trustees for the UCLA Foundation. He has maintained a steady commitment to campus philanthropy throughout his involvement, championing the value of charitable dollars in providing a critical margin of excellence for UCLA. He currently serves on the Board of Directors of the UCLA Foundation.
His passion for creating a sense of university community is further reflected in his work as co-founder of the Alumni Academy, an eight-month volunteer development program that provides alumni participants with the knowledge and understanding to act as volunteer leaders within the Association and throughout campus. Peter Hayashida ’88, assistant vice chancellor, says, “His adeptness at transcending traditional boundaries and bringing volunteers together in support of the University has led to greater understanding, increased collaboration, and ultimately, a stronger and more cohesive body of volunteer leadership.”
Dan Chernow Ed.D. ’97 says of Seymour, “There is nothing Jeff wouldn’t do – or hasn’t done – for the benefit of UCLA. This son of Westwood is driven by only one thing; his abiding love for UCLA and his desire to make a difference.”
