Jeffrey Galvin’s most important contribution to the law school and community at large has been his tireless efforts at fostering pro bono work amongst the student body. He has served as president, secretary and board member for the UCLA Public Interest Law Foundation – a student-run, non-profit organization to foster financial and moral support for public interest work within the legal system.

This commitment to public service began his senior year at Harvard as coordinator of the Youth Enrichment Program for the Hispanic Council of Cambridge.

As a law student, Jeff received three American Jurisprudence awards for achieving the highest grades in his Constitutional Law, Torts and Legal Research and Writing courses, and a fourth American Jurisprudence for his Moot Court activities. This year Jeff was a member of the Moot Court Executive Board and was selected for the UCLA Moot Court National Team, which advanced to the fall 1992 quarter finals of the national competition.

Jeff has taught a weekly tutorial in Criminal Law, volunteered his time as a board member for El Centro Legal – a student-run evening law clinic in Santa Monica – and coordinated 20 student volunteers to work for the Urban Recovery Legal Assistance project.

Beyond the judicial clerkship he will fill next year in the Central District of California, Jeff plans to apply for public interest fellowships or public interest government positions.
