Joanne Van Cleef Knopoff ’53
Joanne Knopoff’s devotion to UCLA is manifest in the diverse range of her continuous involvement, which is currently focused on Design for Sharing, the community service program of UCLA’s Center for the Performing Arts. In her third year as president of Design for Sharing, Knopoff is committed to the presentation of professional performing arts events to disadvantaged members of the community. The elderly, the handicapped and public school students all have benefitted from the group’s efforts. For many students, Design for Sharing provides the first experience of a live performance and the first visit to a university campus. Under the leadership of Knopoff, the Design for Sharing program has undergone a dramatic increase in volunteer involvement with near-doubling of general membership and funds raised.
Knopoff graduated in 1953 from UCLA in a B.S. in business administration. She received a master’s in psychology from Stanford University. Her energetic service to UCLA is reflected in her past position as chair of the Alumni Council, the Alumni Association’s vice president of support and honorary organizations and president of Gold Shield Alumnae of UCLA. She also has been president of the Faculty Women’s Club.
