Karen Cogan ’85
Karen Cogan, a psychology major, is a scholar-athlete who radiates a positive energy and winning spirit. Committed to the academic ideals of UCLA, she holds profound gratitude for the opportunities provided by the University. A top all-round member of the nationally-ranked women’s gymnastic team, Cogan sustained a severe knee injury which forced an early retirement from competition. Undaunted, she soon connected her scholastic talents with her knowledge of athletics. Her compiled data analyzes the relationship between physical and mental processes in sports performance and will be published in Didatica Del Movimento, an Italian journal of psychology.
Cogan assists the athletic department by working in career development and recruiting. She was elected to the position of recording secretary for the Bruin Boosters from Women’s Sports. She has directly advised her fellow undergraduates as a letters and science ASK peer counselor and as a volunteer with the Placement and Career Planning Center.
Cogan is a Chancellor’s Scholar and a member of Mortar Board, the national honor society for university seniors. Continuing her studies at UCLA, she will enroll in the Ph.D. program in clinical psychology.
