Kenneth Kingrey ’40, M.A. ’42
Kenneth Kingrey, a professor of arts-emeritus of the University of Hawaii, is a much revered educator and a respected, award-winning artist and graphic designer. After receiving his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from UCLA, Kingrey was a member of the art department faculty and served as program chair in advertising art. His career led him to Hawaii, where he taught art and became professor and program chair at the University of Hawaii. Kingrey founded the Contemporary Art Center of Hawaii in 1982. He has been instrumental in the selection, design and installation of many sculptures and exhibitions. Additionally, Kingrey has won Western Book Awards for all six of his book designs. He also created interior-architectural designs, trademarks, letterheads, brochures, announcements, photographic exhibitions and a scholarly catalogue for state exhibition.
He was honored in a weeklong tribute at the University of Hawaii following his retirement.
