Posted On - May 28, 2015

As the director of the Radiological Science Residency Training Program for the past five years, Lawrence Bassett teaches students and residents with enthusiasm and care, working hours far beyond the expected. Also the department’s vice chairman for education and assistant dean in the UCLA School of Medicine, he teaches for the pure love of teaching - for comprehension and application, not for rote response; to motivate and stimulate students to their best possible performance; to promote innovative thinking and the best ideals. “He deeply affected my career with his enthusiasm for teaching, intellectual capabilities and caring nature,” said one student. Another called him “a shining light - the very finest teacher I have ever had.”

Also the recipient of this year’s Graduate Teaching Award, Bassett is by any definition of the term a truly distinguished teacher.
