Mark Plant
Mark Plant is a teacher whose charismatic lecture style and honesty engage the questioning minds of his students. An assistant professor of economics, his classroom methods are rigorous yet inspiring, pointing the way to a clear understanding of subject material. A member of the UCLA faculty since 1981, Plant received his bachelor’s degree from the University of Virginia and completed his master’s and Ph.D. in economics at Princeton University. He is a committed teacher and researcher, conducting courses in labor economics, econometrics, public finance and introductory microeconomics.
His current research focuses on the dynamic nature of the unemployment rate and the relationship between aggregate unemployment and labor market behavior. His past investigatory efforts have included examinations of welfare dependency and the impact on relative wages created by changes in population age distribution. Plant is a three-time recipient of the Warren C. Scoville Distinguished Teaching Award in Economics.
