Michael Angel Bermudez ’00
Michael Angel Bermudez understands the importance of being well rounded. Completing a double major in anthropology and art history and a minor in museum studies, he has worked hard to achieve a complete multi-faceted liberal education.
As Paul Von Blum says, “Bermudez has achieved the kind of broadly integrated liberal education that we always seek in theory but too rarely find in actual practice.” He has pursued and excelled in varied extra-curricular activities. And with a cumulative GPA of 3.75, he enjoys membership in five college honor societies: Phi Beta Kappa, Golden Key, Mortar Board, Pi Gamma Mu and Alpha Chi.
Bermudez has given countless hours to the arts community of Los Angeles. On campus, he has worked in both the business and creative ends of the Fowler Museum of Cultural History. In addition, he has participated in projects with the Getty Museum, Los Angeles County Museum of Art, and Natural History Museum of Los Angeles County.
Bermudez’s work in the arts, combined with his interest in cultural diplomacy, led him to Cuba during the summer of 1999. As on of very few Americans able to secure licenses from the U.S. Department of the Treasury and State, he attended Cuba’s first International Conference on Culture and Development. As one of 2,000 delegates from countries around the globe, he conducted research to find ways of using arts-related programming to create a greater understanding of American culture and democracy in Cuba, and vice versa.
Upon graduation, he will pursue a joint degree program, the J.D./M.A. (international relations), with special emphasis in international law and diplomatic organizations. He will then apply his degrees to a career in public international law with organizations such as UNESCO and other branches of the United Nations.
With a strong, multi-faceted yet focused background, Bermudez will undoubtedly continue to excel in his academic and professional endeavors.
