Michael Soderberg ’69 has had a formidable public service record in 35 years of duty with the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, including his most recent designation as chief of detectives. In addition, over the last 25 years, he has been a force as consultant with Mike Soderberg Associates.
Soderberg assumed the responsibilities of chief of detectives in November 2001. He was entrusted with overseeing all major investigations within the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department, including homicide, narcotics, family abuse, commercial crimes, as well as a variety of other fields. He monitored more than 20 task forces, the Sheriff’s Department Division with 803 investigators and professional staff, and also administered the annual budget of more then $77 million. Prior to his stint as chief of detectives, Soderberg worked in various positions in the Sheriff’s Department, advancing up from deputy sheriff to commander, and then to his most recent position.
Soderberg also provides his expertise and experience as a consultant for Mike Soderberg Associates. His services are retained in the areas of litigation strategy, expert witness testimony, police and correctional practices and procedures, liability and risk assessment and major incident management. His advice has been sought by a variety of correctional agencies on the federal, state and local levels, and he has worked with international clients worldwide. He has lectured and published works in his various areas of expertise as well.
Active in a multitude of philanthropic causes, including the Red Cross and the American Youth Soccer Organization, Soderberg has been honored with the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Distinguished Service Medal and the Los Angeles Sheriff’s Department Career Achievement Award.
