Rebecca Fernandez Sison ’84
Rebecca Fernandez Sison is a public health major whose interest in the sciences is only exceeded by concern for her fellow man. Throughout the pursuit of education goals, she has been dedicated to helping others by involvement in programs for the young and the needy. Sison’s considerable academic achievements have been recognized through her honors status and placement on the dean’s honors list. A Chancellor’s Scholar, she is a member of the Golden Key National Honor Society. She recently became a full research assistant in the School of Medicine’s Department of Physiology.
Complementing her devotion to scholarly pursuits, Sison has an abiding commitment to UCLA’s official charity, UniCamp, a summer camp for underprivileged children; she has served as a head counselor and swimming instructor. She assumed the important post of program chair on the UniCamp Board of Directors. She is also active in several programs of the ASUCLA Community Service Commission, notably as head coach for the UCLA Special Olympics.
While continuing her research work, Sison plans to attend the UCLA School of Medicine.
