Robert Preucel, Ph.D. ’87
A sophisticated and highly creative researcher, Robert Preucel promises to be one of the next generation’s intellectual leaders in archaeology. He has already earned international visibility, addressing the World Archaeological Congress in England and presenting papers before other scholarly meetings. He is also co-author of two publications in press. Demonstrating initiative and administrative skill, Preucel independently organized and carried out his fieldwork in New Mexico, finding sources of funds, recruiting a student crew and managing logistics. He is very active in graduate student affairs, a faithful participant in departmental programs and president of the Archaeological Society, where he organized a lecture series on current archaeological research. He has represented the interest of fellow students at the Social Sciences Council and Graduate Student Association Forum. Among his many honors are UCLA Friends of Archaeology fellowships and a research grant from the American Indian Studies Center. Preucel is the kind of student who will always reflect UCLA’s high standards of intellectual and personal achievement.
