Stacy enrolled in her first education studies class with Bruce Barbee during the winter quarter of her first year. In this class, she learned that academic and social integration are essential to persistence through and satisfaction with college. She took this advice to heart.

Stacy pursued the English major to develop her writing and critical thinking skills through literary analysis. In the education studies minor, she learned about issues in education ranging from policy to practice. Her interest in charter schools led her to volunteer at Westwood Charter Elementary School and at High Tech High-Los Angeles, where, under the guidance of Marilyn Kourilsky, she researches the integration of technology in the English curriculum while teaching short lessons to a freshman English class. She also worked with Barbee for five more quarters, eventually teaching fellow undergraduates as a discussion leader. She plans to combine her love for literature and passion for education by becoming a high school English teacher. She will enter a teacher education program in June..

Stacy first became involved in residential life as a program assistant during her second year and returned as a resident assistant for her final two years. She currently serves as the vice president of Mortar Board National Senior Honor Society, works as a composition tutor for Academics in the Commons, and oversees the production of the first edition of the Unofficial Guide to UCLA, which will provide Bruins with student-written advice on making the most of one’s UCLA experience. She also has raised funds for the Mattel Children’s Hospital at UCLA as the residential life chair for the UCLA Run/Walk committee, served as a counselor for UCLA UniCamp, and mentored prospective Regents Scholars. Through her involvement, she has been able to encourage others to find their own niche at UCLA so that they, too, will persist through and be satisfied with their college experience.
