The Alumni Volunteer of the Year award honors Stephanie Brown ’85 for her loyalty, dedication and commitment to the UCLA community. Brown has served as a dedicated alumna volunteer leader since 1990, working tirelessly for UCLA alumni, students and future Bruins. Currently serving as president of the Bay Area Bruins (BAB), Brown is a wealth management advisor with LPL Financial, specializing in helping clients accumulate and conserve their finances.
Brown has a deep commitment to the San Francisco Bay Area Network. Under her leadership the BAB has grown to more than 7,000 members, increasing the volunteer base of the scholarship program and engaging more than 40,000 Bruins in the Bay Area. Her commitment to student support has helped grow the Bay Area Bruins Marijane Viat Memorial Scholarship Endowment Fund.
Inclusive and impactful, Brown strives to make the university accessible to as many students as possible though her numerous roles in the scholarship program for the last two decades. Under her leadership as district, area and state chair, their committees achieved the goals they set forth in facilitating change and growth in student scholarships. She continues to mentor students who have been part of the scholarship program, nurturing leadership development and bringing them into the alumni community.
Brown previously served on the UCLA Alumni Association Board and Finance Committee, was two-time president of the Bay Area Bruins and held numerous roles with community service, engagement and new student outreach programs. Her personal engagement fosters a sense of community generally associated with smaller schools. She is driven by the opportunities her UCLA education created for her personally and professionally, and uses her enthusiasm for UCLA to find and develop that same passion in others.
