Steven Clarke
An integral part of the UCLA faculty since 1978, Steven Clarke has spent the last 24 years of his career inspiring new generations of young scientists and developing the innovative, in-depth services for which UCLA is renowned. Steve has received a number of accolades, including the Herbert Newby McCoy Award, the Hanson-Dow Award for Excellence in Teaching, the Ralph F. Hirschmann Award in Peptide Chemistry and most recently the NIH Merit Award. In addition to having taught the majority of the biochemistry curriculum, Clarke served as Biochemistry Liaison from 1997-2001, vice chair for education programs from 1991-3, and developed a number of courses. Currently a member and a former chair of Chemistry Undergraduate Advising committee, he has also mentored Ph.D. and M.S. graduates. Steve says he often wakes up at 3 a.m. to make sure he has enough time to “get the material right!”
