Sue Young has made a profound and visible impact on the overall quality of UCLA. As the spouse of the chief executive officer of one of the nation’s great universities, her actions and ideas have given complete articulation to the partner’s role in the management and advancement of higher education institutions.

Young’s administrative abilities are vital in planning and overseeing a vast array of campus events and conferences. In addition, she has opened to doors of her home to University, community, national and world dignitaries, always in the interest of enhancing the visibility and public reputation of UCLA.

A magna cum laude UCLA graduate with a degree in political science, Young is regarded nationally as a key figure in the effort to impart full and significant definition to the spousal contribution in educational leadership. Her essay, “The Question of Remuneration,” was selected for inclusion in the anthology The President’s Spouse, a recent study of important issues addressed by marital partners of American campus leaders.

Young has brought distinction to UCLA by serving as the chair for the Association of American Universities Partners Committee, as well as chair of the host committee for the International Association of Universities Conference, which convenes this summer. She is currently chair-elect of the National Association of State Universities and Land-Grant Colleges Partners Council.

Whether at home or beyond the boundaries of the Westwood campus, Young prevails as a gracious, informed and energetic advocate of the University. The Alumni Association takes pride in recognizing the 18 years of direction and caring support she has so affectionately given to her alma mater.
