Thomas Alloggiamento ’90
As a premed student majoring in English, Thomas Alloggiamento has shown remarkable gifts in both his studies of literature and of the sciences. He combines his literary and medical interests by taking a leadership role with The UCLA Poet-Physician Anthology, serving as coeditor with Neil Page, whom has also been named Outstanding Senior. The anthology will celebrate the relationship between literature and medicine, featuring the poetic works of medical personnel from all over the world.
Alloggiamento earned a prestigious Division of Honors summer research stipend for his outstanding work with the anthology. The stipend is only one of many honors Alloggiamento has won during his undergraduate years. He also captured the President’s Undergraduate Fellowship for his research on retroviral and oncogene regulation. In addition, he was a Regents Scholar, an Alumni Association Undergraduate Distinguished Scholar and a student in the College Honors Program. An enthusiastic volunteer, Alloggiamento gave freely of his time at the UCLA Medical Center, and, in the area of student leadership, he co-directed the nationally acclaimed Speakers Program through the Campus Events Commission, bringing speakers from politics, entertainment and sports to UCLA. He coordinated correspondence, publicity, hospitality and security for the series.
Described as someone who becomes totally involve with whatever he undertakes, Alloggiamento is known to faculty and fellow students as a dedicated, hard working and keenly perceptive person. His superb academic record combined with qualities of maturity, warmth and concern for others makes Alloggiamento one who meets the finest ideals of an outstanding senior.
