Wells Wohlwend ’52, J.D. ’57

A successful attorney, Wells Wohlwend has practically made a second career out of supporting his alma mater. When he’s not cheering a Bruin team at a sporting event, he’s serving in a leadership capacity somewhere on campus or raising funds for some campus project.

Since 1977, Wohlwend has been a member of The UCLA Foundation Board of Trustees, serving as general counsel for four years. In the past, he was on the Alumni Association Board of Directors, where he was also general counsel as well as vice president for membership. He is still active with the School of Law Alumni Association and serves on the Dean’s Fund Advisory Council.

Wohlwend was a founder of the James West Alumni Center and, as a charter member of the UCLA Athletic Hall of Fame Committee, also served as former vice chair. Wohlwend proved effective in fathering support for both The UCLA Campaign and the John Wooden Sports and Recreation Center; it was through his efforts that the largest single gift for the Wooden Center was obtained. He is a lifelong sports fan, and this enthusiasm led him to serve in 1984 as a member of the host committee for track and field for the Los Angeles Olympic Organizing Committee.

Wohlwend’s dedication to UCLA began during his student days, when he was deeply involved with campus activities. After graduating from the School of Law, Wohlwend served as a lieutenant in the U.S. Naval reserve and is currently a senior partner with Johnson, Wohlwend, Johnston & Olivar. He is described by friends and admirers as someone who has given unstintingly of his time and energies and whose loyalty to UCLA grows deeper with each passing year.
