Dr. Bill Dorfman has been practicing dentistry for more than 25 years and has dedicated his life to helping others. A psychobiology graduate of UCLA in 1980 where he was honored with the Outstanding Senior Award, he then received his dental degree in 1983 from the University of the Pacific in San Francisco. Since establishing his private practice in aesthetic and general dentistry, he has become known as one of the country’s leading dentists and has helped thousands of patients smile.
Nicknamed “America’s Dentist,” Dorfman is responsible for creating smiles for many Hollywood celebrities. He is most well known for his appearances in ABC’s Extreme Makeover and CBS’s The Doctors. Additionally, he is frequently featured on Larry King Live, The Tyra Banks Show, Good Morning America, The Today Show, Access Hollywood, E! and the Channel 4 News to name a few.
In 1989, Dorfman formed one of the world’s leading dental companies Discus Dental, Inc., whose products Brite Smile, Zoom!, Nite White and BreathRx, have become household names worldwide. He was also author of the New York Times best seller, Billion Dollar Smile and The Smile Guide, and serves as editor for The Profitable Dentist.
Dorfman has committed himself to giving back to people in need. After graduating dental school, he provided dental care to third world immigrants in Lausanne Switzerland and sponsored a family from the Czech Republic to move to the US. In 1997, he began providing free dental care to the Battered Women’s Shelter of Los Angeles and to thousands of underprivileged youth through the Los Angeles Children’s Dental Center as well as in Mexico. He recently returned from Johannesburg, South Africa where he raised more than $R 300,000 for orphaned children.
Dorfman also co-founded the non-profit LEAP Foundation, dedicated to furthering the success of high school and college age students through an annual week long mentorship and professional development workshops held at UCLA.
In association with the Crown Council of dentistry, Dorfman’s company provided free whitening materials for its charity, Smiles for Life. Proceeds from the discounted teeth whitening services brought about by Smiles for Life raised more than $25 million for various children’s charities throughout the U.S. and the world.
Despite his immense success, Dorfman has remained dedicated to his UCLA roots, serving two terms as vice president of the Alumni Association Board of Directors and as a volunteer judge for Spirit Squad auditions and Spring Sing for two decades. A former Spirit Squad member himself, he provides an annual scholarship and free cleanings, exams and tooth whitening for the entire squad. Beyond his contributions of time, he generously provides financial support for various UCLA programs.
