For those who are inclined to serve, the state of California has hundreds of open board appointments and commissions – in categories as diverse as the state itself. Do you have a strong urge to help others and want to take action to improve the quality of life in your community? If so, take advantage of this opportunity to learn how to apply for a position on a state board or commission.

Join us for a personal welcome from Governor Gavin Newsom followed by remarks by Chancellor Gene Block on the significance of Bruins in public service.

Cathryn Rivera-Hernandez, Appointments Secretary at Office of Governor Gavin Newsom, will offer guidance to make sure that applying for a commission or appointment is the right decision for you. She will also discuss the importance of having a diverse range of people in the workforce and recruiting leaders of all backgrounds, experiences, and types of expertise to serve.

You will have opportunities to meet Bruins serving in state-appointed positions, learn from their journey, and ask questions.
