Join science ecologists with the San Francisco Bay Bird Observatory (SFBBO) for a day in the field helping to restore habitat in tidal marsh transition zones in the heart of the Bay Area at Bair Island in Redwood City. This restoration site, which is open exclusively to volunteers, provides habitat for Bay Area birds and other species and protects human communities.
UCLA Alumni volunteers will help remove vegetation, take a tour and learn about the plants scientists are adding to the location to help tidal marshes adapt to sea level rise more quickly. Weeding will take place that day in exposed, possibly very warm conditions, so people are encouraged to wear layers, a hat, gloves and sunscreen, and bring water. Event is limited to 20 participants max, so come join us for this unique opportunity! Children ages 12 and older can attend.
