In honor of Native American Indian Heritage Month, the Orange County Book Club is proud to present its next read: An American Genocide: The United States and the California Indian Catastrophe, 1846-1873.
Join Bruins and special guest speaker, Dr. Benjamin Madley, author and Associate Professor at UCLA, for a discussion and Q&A for his award-winning book, which details California’s Indian population plunge from perhaps 150,000 to 30,000 between 1846 and 1873.
Professor Madley will offer insights on why the slaughter constituted genocide and how other possible genocides within and beyond the Americas might be investigated using the methods presented in this groundbreaking book.
