About "SHADOW OF A DOUBT"
Naive teenager Charlie (Teresa Wright) begins to suspect her beloved Uncle Charlie (Joseph Cotten), on vacation visiting sleepy Santa Rosa, California, might actually be the fugitive “Merry Widow” serial killer. Before David Lynch appeared, Hitchcock explored the idea of malevolent evil seeping into a small town. The film is low-key at times — but thanks to Cotten’s mesmerizing performance, this may be the director’s ultimate expression of the evil lurking beneath the banal surface of everyday life.
