As a military spouse, Megan Glynn '01 has literally been around the world and back. She spent time living in several places, including Korea and Germany, and values the wide range of encounters she has had. Since meeting her husband Matthew just one year before Sept. 11, 2001, her experience as a military spouse has been filled with deployments, temporary duty assignments and training courses. Through her experiences, she has gained a better understanding of the strength of her family and the importance of the strong bonds that are formed within the military community.

In 2011, Glynn was selected as the Military Spouse of the Year Air Force branch winner. She served as an ambassador and leader as the winning nominee of the Air Force branch. Since 2008, Military Spouse magazine has honored a Military Spouse of the Year who represents the sacrifice, patriotism, professionalism and altruism that embody the community of 1.1 million current military spouses. Recipients are selected based on his or her impact in the community, volunteerism, education and career pursuits.

For the past few years, Glynn has taught childbirth education for countless military families and provided professional support during labor to the spouses of deployed military members. She also launched a website with her mother, ShopZoolu.com to provide access to products for babies, children and mothers who are living overseas. Her professional pursuits demonstrate her attentiveness to the difficulties faced by military families.

Born and raised in Southern California, Glynn studied history at UCLA and played for the women’s soccer team. With two sons and another on the way, she has managed to balance family and work. As the Military Spouse of the Year Air Force Branch winner, she hopes to offer support and encouragement to other military spouses and raise awareness about the pressures military families face.

Despite the challenges she has met, Glynn is appreciative of the opportunities she has had, lessons she has learned and the personal connections she has made. Glynn values the experiences she has had around the world and is grateful for the support of her family and friends. As she told Military Spouse magazine, “I am so proud to be a military spouse and have these incredible life lessons to thank for the woman, wife, mother and friend that I have grown to be today.”
