Explore regional gems and cosmopolitan cities alike in this essential and alluring discovery of exceptional La Belle France. As our small group tour travels from Provence to Lyon and Burgundy to Paris, bask in the history and art, culture and cuisine that mark these cherished spots. The journey begins in Aix-en-Provence, “City of Fountains” where we admire it’s rich and diverse architectural heritage and visit the studio where Cézanne  worked from 1902 to 1906.   A visit to the medieval village of Les Baux precedes lunch in St. Remy and a stop at the monastery where Vincent Van Gogh was confined.  Encounter Arles and Roman-influenced Nimes where we explore the 1^st-century Roman   Amphitheater, a UNESCO site.  In Avignon, enjoy a Provençal cooking class, and in Lyon, explore the ruins of the Gallo-Roman theater and view the cities jaw-dropping street art (locally known as “trompe l’oeil”). Visit lakeside Annecy in the lovely French Alps, strolling through the picturesque Old Town with its streetside canals and pastel-hued houses; then enjoy a cruise on pristine Lake Annecy. Continue to the Burgundy wine region: take a walking tour of the walled town of Beaune, visit renowned Hôtel-Dieu Museum, and sample some of the area vintages at a local winery.  Our stay in Dijon brings its rich history and culture to life, including a visit to the one-time home of scientist Louis Pasteur. The final destination is Paris for a balance of free time and seeing city highlights, including a visit to the Opéra Garnier, the opulent theater that stands as a symbol of the city.  Savor more time in the “City of Light” with an optional 3-day/2-night post-tour extension.
