2023-2024 Board Elections

Dear UCLA Black Bruin Alumni,

The UCLA Black Alumni Association (UBAA) is pleased to announce that we are accepting nominations for positions on the UBAA Board and Executive Officer roles. This is an excellent opportunity to contribute to the growth and success of one of the most active and successful Black alumni associations in the United States. If you or someone you know meets the eligibility criteria outlined below, we encourage you to complete and submit a nomination form.

What does being "nominated" mean?

Being nominated for a Board or Executive Leadership position in UBAA signifies that someone has been proposed or put forward as a potential candidate for that role. It indicates that others within UBAA have recognized the individual's qualifications, skills, and suitability for the responsibilities associated with the position. Nominations are typically part of a selection process where members of the organization suggest individuals they believe would be effective and capable in the role. Being nominated doesn't guarantee selection, but it is a significant step toward potentially assuming the role if the nominee accepts the nomination and participates in the election voting process by being included on a ballot of candidates.

Board of Director-Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Be a financial member in good standing for two (2) years prior to the time of nomination.
• Demonstrate a keen interest in the objectives of UBAA and be a respected citizen in the community.
• Exhibit commitment and competence as a professional, with a minimum of five (5) years of administrative experience in private, government, or educational sectors.

Executive Officer-Eligibility Criteria

Candidates must meet the following eligibility requirements:

• Be a financial member in good standing.
• Demonstrate an interest in the goals and objectives of UBAA.
• Have some prior experience serving on a committee or as a volunteer.

Nomination & Election Process

Nomination Form is sent via email to all UCLA Black Bruins asking for their nomination choices for the positions open to be filled. The nomination period will open on Monday, Sept. 25 and close on Friday, Oct. 13. A vetting / validation process with the nominees is performed. The ballot will be created from the top nominees for each position. An election period will be announced, and upon the election close, ballots are counted and verified and the newly appointed Board members and Officers are announced, elected and sworn in.

Nominees must be financial (paid) members of the UCLA Black Alumni Association in addition to meeting the specified criteria. Please visit UBAA's website at http://www.uclablackalumni.org/home for more information on becoming a financial (paid) member and to view detailed descriptions of the responsibilities for the Board of Director and Executive Officer positions.

The Nominations process originally was scheduled to be opened at the beginning of July 2023 but was delayed due to organizational readiness for the election process.

Nominations will open on Monday, Sept. 25 and will close on Friday, 5:00 p.m. (PST) on Oct. 13.
