What is the Bruin Promise?
The Bruin Promise is a central website for UCLA developed career and professional development, health and wellness, arts and culture, and lifelong learning resources. It is a promise to alumni to provide access to UCLA’s vast educational opportunities, well beyond the boundaries of your student experience. It is a life-enriching philosophy to be there at all stages of life as alumni pursue their dreams and seek opportunity, whether personal or professional.
“All UCLA students possess a certain set of traits — among them curiosity, optimism, drive, compassion, creativity and a deep desire to improve the world around them. But beyond this, Bruins are remarkably different from one another, coming from all over California, the rest of the nation and the world, and representing a broad spectrum of races and ethnicities, interests, ideologies, gender identities, sexual orientations, socioeconomic statuses, religious beliefs and other qualities.

How can I access Bruin Promise opportunities?
The Bruin Promise provides you with a curated list of resources you can access as a Bruin. Simply click on the individual experience that appeals to you and you’ll be taken to a UCLA website page that shares the details.
Each experience on the Bruin Promise website is highlighted with a brief description of the offering, with keywords that show the main topics and the campus area from which it originates. The experiences on the Bruin Promise website are highlighted by some amazing images that support the individual offerings. The pics are so intriguing!
What Bruin Promise opportunities are available to me?
The following categories were developed from an alumni survey sent to more than 200,000 Bruins. They reflect the interests and intellectual desires of Bruins like you who seek after personal and professional development and enrichment opportunities. Our work has always been, and will continue to be, to strengthen the Bruin community.
Career & Professional Development
Many of the Bruin Promise experiences provide career and professional development opportunities. You may want to take a course offering to further your professional credentials. Or you might listen to a podcast featuring a discussion between alumni experts speaking about ways to enhance your career and sharing their own personal experiences while doing so. Take advantage of diverse, multifaceted programming to sharpen your competitive edge and elevate your career trajectory across schools and professions.
Health & Wellness
Significant experiences focus on health and wellness. Perhaps you’d like to find ways to incorporate mindfulness into your daily life? If so, then participate in a session with UCLA mindful awareness experts to help you learn how. Interested in the latest UCLA Health research findings and treatments? Then access a multitude of resources, from free films and lectures, to publications, seminars and webinars. UCLA is known for world-class health care. Find the latest exercise, disease prevention, meditation, mental health, research, self-care tips, wellness news, and more for optimal well-being.
Arts & Culture
UCLA is known for its arts and cultural offerings. We are a powerhouse in this domain. If you’re interested in arts, architecture, entertainment, film, music, theater, the written word, then access to the rich resources UCLA provides is for you. Explore the Hammer Museum's renown artist-centric and progressive array of numerous exhibitions and public programs. These programs provide a powerful platform for leveraging the power of art and ideas through lectures, film screenings, musical performances and other events. And that’s just one highlight of our arts and culture experiences! Through art, we advocate, educate, experience, explore, express, honor, and learn to value all cultures. Find opportunities to enrich and illuminate your worldview.
Lifelong Learning
Beyond your classroom learning experiences, the Bruin Promise provides a depth of opportunities to help you discover, enhance, enrich, explore, fulfill, indulge, seek, and satisfy your educational curiosity and inquisitiveness. Perhaps you’re shifting course, looking to change careers, or to find your second act after retirement? Maybe you want to volunteer and give back? Maybe you’re interested in writing a book, learning more about cryptocurrencies, or volunteering to mentor a current student? The Bruin Promise provides an intellectual goldmine of experiences to help address your needs. Once ignited, the desire to learn burns indefinitely and crosses disciplines. UCLA builds bridges and opens doors that give agency to all aspects of human knowledge.
There are so many opportunities available, how do I find content that’s right for me?
We’re glad you asked. There are a variety of ways you can easily access the Bruin Promise content.
On the Bruin Promise home page you have access to a variety of information. You’ll see a highlight from a Bruin influencer at the top with a quote about the Bruin Promise. You’ll have access to information about the Bruin Promise, and also Frequently Asked Questions (you’re reading them right now) to help you explore and engage with the content.
On the home page, under the Bruin Influencer quote, notice the Find Your Niche buttons allowing you to quickly select the content you want to explore. Featured Bruin Promise content experiences are next, they might reflect a monthly theme, or a new experience, they will change frequently. Then you will see a Most Popular Content feature, displaying the content Bruins have been most interested in at that point in time. Lastly, you’ll see highlights for each category followed by View All buttons at the end of each section that allow you to see all the content in that category.
On the Bruin Promise content page you’ll notice the various quick select Categories buttons at the top of the website. These are located just under the image at the top of the pages. These reflect the Arts & Culture, Career & Professional Development, Health & Wellness and Lifelong Learning content categories. Click on any one of the buttons and the website will automatically sort the associated content into the selected category for you.
Underneath the Quick Select buttons are three content filters for All Colleges and Organizations, All Content Types, and Sort by Name. These filters allow you to access the content you want from the campus area you want to focus on. For example:
— From the All Colleges and Organizations filter, select the Institute of American Cultures,
— Then from the All Content Types filter, select Institutes and Centers,
— And you will see the display of the four centers that roll up under the Institute of American Cultures.
Use the Sort by Name feature to display all content sorted by Name, School/Organization, or Popularity to also access the content in a different way. And don’t forget the Search feature to the right of the Categories row. Search will use your keywords to help find specific content.
Use the Reset Filters button to the right of the filter selections row to reset the content. Then use the filter selections to once again easily find other content choices. We hope you like these features as they’ve been developed just for you!
