In collaboration with offices and departments throughout campus, the mission of the Parent & Family Association is to help parents and families understand the student experience, support student learning, and empower students to take personal responsibility for their social and academic choices. We do this by…
- Providing parents with a formal link to the University
- Equipping parents with knowledge, tools, and resources to champion their student’s overall success
- Offering opportunities for parents to get involved with UCLA activities
The mission of the Parent & Family Association is guided by the following objectives:
- Facilitate communication channels between parents and the University so that parents can receive, or be directed to, reliable University-related information
- Share knowledge through parent-specific resources including the Bruinlink digital newsletter, UCLA Parents social media channels, the Bruin Family Insights podcast and more
- Enable parents to participate in University life by providing a variety of volunteer opportunities on campus, regionally and online that promote the University and enrich their student’s college experience
- Create opportunities for parents to connect and discuss topics of mutual interest or concern both on campus at UCLA and in their local communities around the world
Program & Events
The Parent & Family Association collaborates on several large events on campus throughout the year to provide opportunities for you to visit your student and connect with other parents at both a local and regional level. Below are some important annual events.
|Bruin Day (April - Freshman; May - Transfers)
Bruin Day is dedicated to welcoming newly admitted students and families and helping them decide if UCLA is the best fit for them. Events include fairs on academic and student life, workshops and lectures, campus tours and open houses, and much much more!
|Family Orientation (July - September)
New Family Orientation is designed to help new parents and families get acquainted with the university and provide them with information and resources geared towards supporting their students’ success at UCLA. At orientation, parents and families receive information on a variety of topics from faculty and staff presenters. For more information, please visit the New Student Academic Programs website.
|Bruin Family Weekend (Late October - Early November)
This annual three-day, on-campus event is designed to give parents the opportunity to experience UCLA’s campus from a new perspective with their Bruin. Weekend events include workshops, lectures from faculty and staff, social events, and much more! Event information typically becomes available in September.
|Coffee Socials (Rolling basis throughout the year)
Coffee Socials are informal gatherings held regionally and hosted by a current UCLA parent or family member. This event allows the Parent & Family Association to bring UCLA to communities across the globe. They also provide an opportunity for parents to engage with one another on a regional level and foster connections and relationships between parents and family members of current UCLA undergraduate students.
|Bruin Family Chats (Quarterly via Zoom)
These virtual drop-in events provide a space for parents and family members to ask questions, chat with other Bruin families and meet Parent & Family Association staff and other campus partners. All Bruin families are welcome to attend to learn more about the UCLA experience!
Bruin Family Insights
