A Letter from the Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Affairs

The UCLA Alumni Association is here to support all Bruins – including you and your soon-to-be graduate! In this letter, Dr. Julie Sina, Associate Vice Chancellor of Alumni Affairs and CEO of the UCLA Alumni Association, reflects on the past year and shares how your Bruin family can take advantage of Alumni Association resources to make the most of your relationship with UCLA well beyond graduation.
Dear Bruin Families,
In just a few short weeks, graduating students and their families will be celebrating a very special milestone. A tremendous accomplishment for every class preparing to graduate, made even more so for this year’s class whose entire senior year was experienced virtually.
Over the past year as learning pivoted from in-person to virtual, UCLA programs and events also moved from physical venues to digital ones. Examples like lunch meetings with wo/mentors switching to Zoom video conferences, the annual Spring Sing extravaganza shifting from the Pauley Pavilion stage to a virtual one, and Dinners for 12 Strangers being hosted around a computer monitor instead of a dinner table … all examples of Bruins finding ways to build community and supporting one another.
Out of this challenging year the Alumni Town Hall was launched, including a special gathering for our parents and families. More than 1500 events have gathered thousands of our students, alumni and families around the world. These activities showcase Bruin innovation, resilience, and optimism. This is UCLA’s DNA. And your students’.
Spring quarter is among my favorite times of the academic year for many wonderful reasons. Excitement is in the air with admissions news, the honoring of extraordinary Bruins with UCLA Awards, and the very special opportunity to introduce our newest Bruin graduates into their alumni experience.
Along with your students, your Alumni Association welcomes you in continuing your UCLA journey. Your Association is set up to grow with our Bruins from student to alumni, particularly through a newly launched initiative, Bruin Promise. The Bruin Promise is a renewed commitment to lifelong education and community.
As our Class of 2021 celebrates their graduation in June, their UCLA Alumni Association will be waiting to welcome them into the alumni family. We will continue to engage and enrich them, and involve them in UCLA’s future. Congratulations, Class of 2021! Welcome to your Alumni Association!
In community,
Julie
