New Family Bruinlink 2021

Something Special is Bruin

Welcome to UCLA! How exciting it is to be heading to campus this fall, whether it’s for the first time as an incoming freshman, transfer student, or rising sophomore, or as a student who’s returning after being away due to the pandemic! We join you in celebrating your students for becoming Bruins and for their continued resilience. As parents of three Bruins - including a rising senior - and as Bruins ourselves, we know how exciting and challenging this transition period can be for your family. UCLA recognizes the important role family plays in supporting our students and enabling them to thrive.  When our eldest son began his studies, the University welcomed us into a parent community we now consider family.  We are thrilled to welcome you into the UCLA family as well!  Our students will learn, grow, and enjoy their years at UCLA.  Parents and family members can stay involved and learn about resources that can help our students and us, and enjoy our years at UCLA, too.

The UCLA Parent & Family Association (PFA) recognizes the changing dynamic of the student/parent relationship as your student becomes more independent, but their staff also aims to provide you multiple channels to access important information and resources:

  • Bruinlink - A quarterly e-newsletter for families of undergraduate students to stay connected with the University and be aware of campus services, issues, opportunities, and a wealth of amazing campus events available to your student and you.
  • Parent Helpline – Accessible via phone at 310-794-6737 or by email at mybruinis@ucla.edu, this helpline was created specifically for Bruin parents and families, and is available Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. PT.
  • Bruin Family Insights- A monthly podcast designed to equip families with knowledge to help you get to know UCLA better, and encourage your student to thrive during their time at UCLA and beyond.

Lastly, there are great opportunities for parents and family members to become directly involved with the UCLA campus community.  The UCLA Parents’ Council and the Parent & Family Association exist to coordinate and provide support to this great University.  As 2021-22 Parents’ Council Co-Chairs, we invite you to consider becoming a parent & family volunteer and perhaps applying for Parents’ Council when applications open again next spring.  Volunteering is a great way to personally experience the caring spirit, energy, and optimism embodied by the Bruin community.  We love being actively involved on campus and we look forward to meeting you at Bruin Family Weekend, taking place October 22-23, 2021. We wish you and your family harmony, health, and happiness on this new journey together.

Go Bruins!
