Eric Mandel Memorial Endowment

In memory of Eric G. Mandel ‘76, we have established The Eric Mandel Daily Bruin Journalism Scholarship to support student journalists at UCLA’s Daily Bruin who share his passion for truth, curiosity, and giving others a voice—especially those who face financial barriers in pursuing their education. Eric was a journalist through and through—a truth-seeker, storyteller, and deeply principled man whose life was defined by integrity, compassion, and an unwavering curiosity about the world. Those who knew him remember one of the kindest, most ethical individuals they could hope to meet—a man of substance and warmth, whose quiet generosity and thirst for knowledge left an indelible mark on everyone around him.

This scholarship reflects Eric’s conviction that journalism matters—that it can build understanding, spark change, and make the world a little fairer, kinder, and more connected. During his time at the Daily Bruin, he used his voice to shine light on important issues and to celebrate the community around him. His love for journalism was rooted in compassion, curiosity, and a belief in the transformative power of storytelling.

Now, future Daily Bruin journalists will be able to follow in his footsteps, carrying forward his legacy of integrity, kindness, and commitment to telling stories that matter. This is a reflection of who Eric was: generous, curious, and eager to lift others up.
